This Down syndrome blog post includes the ultimate iPad app list for toddlers. Ipad apps Down syndrome toddlers

Meet Ellie. She gives the warmest hugs and is the best big sister to her brother Cameron. Before Ellie turned two, she knew all of her letters, numbers, shapes and colors. By age two-and-a-half, she knew nearly 200 site words and tested at an advanced kindergarten level with her reading comprehension skills. Now at three, she is spelling some words and is starting to read. Did I mention Ellie also has Down syndrome?

I met Ellie’s Mom, Lauren, through a Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network Facebook group. Lauren is my momsperation. Shortly after I found out Anderson would come into this world with an extra chromosome, she posted a picture of sweet Ellie along with a list of her accomplishments on Facebook. Lauren posted these things not to brag, but to change perceptions. She sure changed mine.

After our doctor gave us one of the worst diagnosis speeches, I thought Down syndrome would cause Anderson to have a very low quality of life.  My doctor explained Anderson may never feed himself (which he is doing at ten months by the way), or at best, mop floors at a fast food restaurant.  Ellie gave me hope of a different future.

Lauren and Ellie made me realize how wrong he was. They taught me that just like with any of our kids, the sky is the limit. An extra chromosome may make Anderson and Ellie a little different from the majority of their peers, but it is not a definition of their lives.

Learning is possible. Thriving, whether educationally or personally, is possible.

One tool that Lauren used to get Ellie where she is today is an amazing list of Ipad apps for toddlers that she introduced to Ellie when she was 15 months old.

My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Violet has been using these for several months now. She too knows all of her letters, her letter sounds, shapes, colors and is starting to sight-read. Several months back her preschool teachers asked me how she knew all of this stuff…we thank Lauren, Ellie and their awesome Ipad app list!

And more than that, we can thank Ellie and Lauren for giving us inspiration at a time when we had none. Ellie, at three years old, you may not understand this now, but you are breaking down stereotypes and encouraging parents like me. Thank you sweet girl.
